The 2008 special summer trip edition is here, and this year is reviewing the last Praktijkvereinging BouT’s excursion to Dubai and India. This after trip publication is an essay compendium made by the trip participants, who researched and elaborated a first draft before the trip, and updated it after the journey with their experiences and opinions. The essays are organized in chronological order according to the trip agenda, and are the result of the participants concerns and interests regarding the predefined journey program. Ype Cuperus, TU Delft teacher who joined the trip, wrote an article about his expectations, and afterwards a retrospective opinion about his experiences there.

At the end, a set of random excursion pictures were chosen and put together as a graphic diary, a small example of the participant’s experiences; the objective is not to make an exhaustive review of the trip, but give a glimpse of the visited locations.
“Search for Contrast” was the motto adopted by the Excursions and Travelling Committee 2008, and since the early planning; when the commission decided the trip destinations, was the main guideline and defined the objectives and the course of the expedition.
Dubai was selected due to the peculiar phenomenon which is occurring there: a race to build the highest tower in the world, similar situation happened in USA several decades ago; seems that the conditions to host this career exist only in Dubai. This Middle East city is the architect’s paradise on earth where all their dreams can become true, where all the buildings are possible and feasible, where the most expensive, the most fashionable and the catchiest live together creating an exception in the middle of the desert.
In the other hand India is a millenarian culture with tons of rich and diverse architecture, where fortresses, palaces, mosques and tombs cohabit with jungles, mountains, and all type of singular animals. The Indian cities atmospheres differs from every other settlement in the world, is not just the amount of people flowing in the streets, or the sounds, or the smells, or the climate, is all of that and much more, an ambiance that have to be first hand experienced.
Praktijkvereinging BouT appreciates and thanks the Excursions and Travelling Committee 2008 (Ydo Schuuring, Hilde Roodvoets, Leonie van Ginkel, Sanne de Groot and Jasper Overkleeft) for all the hard work realized which made possible this remarkable and great experience; a special recognition to our trip sponsors: Besix and Bouwen met Staal without their support this excursion couldn’t be possible.
